It would be quite easy to use the commonly available 8 ohm B200s by simply rescaling the low pass network for either a 4 or 16 ...

Sounds like the dreaded voice coil rub caused by the suspension sagging with time. A frequent recommendation is to regularly rotate and then remount the B300 to compensate.
