I guess the title of this thread is a little miss leading as the tweeter didn't chose to go to "KEF Heaven", it was forcibly sent there by my daughter. Evil or Very Mad

After 2 weeks away with the wife I returned home to find my "beautiful Q50's" broken, my daughter had a few friends around and the volume was turned way to high for my ageing speakers. I've tried in vain to find a replacement, even get it repaired, no joy. Crying or Very sad

Please help me find a replacement/repair.

That is tragic, there is nothing worse than a premature demise of such an excellent transducer. I'd be concerned about the wellbeing of the remaining unit as well as components on the PCB, worth checking...
There is much confusing erroneous information out there regarding your sad plight. Best I could find in a hurry were these links, I have seen these on ePrey but please tread with care!

Thanks proffski.

It would appear that "soundadv" on the South African forum has 2 of them. I've just registered, awaiting activation. Maybe he'll allow me to purchase one of them.

Please keep us informed, I agree about the loudspeakers!
Have you removed and examined the dead unit?

I removed it and asked an electrician friend to test it for me, he said it had burnt out. So I pulled it apart to see if we could repair it. Unfortunately that was beyond our capabilities. Sad

Well and truly scorched. Looks like your amplifier was not only driven to clipping but I'd hate to have listened to the source material! Confused

My daughter said they were using my Spotify account to stream music. My account seemed to have played a lot of "Chase & Status" about that time. Evil or Very Mad

I'm worried about the other tweeter and cross overs. Is it possible they're damaged too?

I'd measure the DC resistance of the other tweeter, but if it sounds OK then fingers crossed.
However, I would carefully remove the crossovers and check for scorched PCB around resistors and bulging capacitors.

I've no idea what "scorched PCB around resistors and bulging capacitors" are so I'll ask my electrician friend to help again.

The other speaker sounds fine but the one with a faulty tweeter sounds terrible. Crying or Very sad

This is a picture taken by a member of another KEF loudspeaker, so do not panic!
The capacitors are either those black things and or blue...
I've seen them exploded on the PCB in the past, the resistors just char the circuit board, seldom change value if wire wound.

Just scroll down, the items are marked HOT

Sorry, that was my fault, now corrected, just double clicking on it should do the trick!
