Okay .. these are bit newer than anything else KEF I've had the pleasure of having. But I'm very tempted to first audition, then if liking what I hear, allowing them to follow me home
Does anyone know what's inside that big band pass cavern?
A pair of 10" pulp coned woofers I know .... but do I need I be concerned with the surrounds? Foam with its finite lifespan or rubber perhaps?
After finding 4 pairs of 104/2's (that I was never really very impressed with) in need of a complicated dis-assembly to refoam the woofers I'm not anxious to do it again.
I've heard talk that this TOLT 90's system was an excellent performer. Very anxious to hear of anyone here's experience with them. _________________ Music is food for the soul. |

Nice ! Reference 4's would rank as my #1 must have Kef system as I feel it makes for the best combination of modern design but one that is certainly "real" KEF.
I have a feeling that I will not be able to afford these for a good few years to come... Rare as you like on the market. If you get a pair, I'd love to hear of your impressions |

Mine was a short lived temptation on these.
I was first seduced by the reputation, but further research uncovered the ferro-fluid damped tweeters & unavailable info on woofer design. A pass was most prudent I deemed.
Being blessed & well served by IMF's 105/2's, CS1's, and venerable 104aB's, I don't need another "project" like the 104/2's. _________________ Music is food for the soul. |

I have the first Model One, the LF drivers have foam surrounds.
The ones on mine did perish but I had them professionally re-foamed.
Tweeters still sound fine.
Personally I'm not a fan of the Uni-Q dual concentric drivers and would of preferred a standard arrangement but as a whole it's a nice speaker with good dynamics which I enjoy listening to.
If on the market for this generation of Reference I'd personally advise avoiding the Model One (Unless very cheap) and jumping straight to the Two or higher, whilst the LF is nice and tight I'd like it to go lower. Again it's down to taste though and room size. |
