The Isophon KK10 has a rectangular faceplate.
The KK8 has a square faceplace held on by three set screws.
It's built like a Coles 4001, in that the voice coil wires are led through the magnet to a terminal strip on its rear.
So you can unscrew the three set screws nearest the dome and have any shaped front plate you like, a'la Audax.
Who originally made the domes (only!), until they had a Methylene Chloride leak at Sainte causing a cessation of production for both Isophon and Monitor Audio. |

Still doesn't sound like the right thing... the rear part has 4 screw holes for the faceplate...
How it works baffles me, as the speaker wires seem to connect to either side of the same faceplate (deadshort?) the rear part has 2 pins which touch the faceplate close to where the wires are connected.... |

Having now "recovered" some of the contents of my archive hard drive.
I've dug out a picture of a weird looking Isophon KK10 which has a four set screw fixing faceplate, but it's a rear mounting drive unit.
So I expect you'll have to do some fabrication to get the desired visual effect. |

In your opinion, were these high quality tweeters, or would I be safe getting an average modern equivalent of same size, and similar frequency response range?...
Maybe a suggestion for good tweeter brands? |

Yes, regarding the KK10 and KK8 as used in the Monitor Audio mk2 MA1, 3, 4, 5 and Rogers Pro9tl.

No, you'll have to look at the more expensive SEAS, Vifa, Audax, etc units if you can find them. |

Would there be room for the Dalesford DIY manual?

I have received your helpful emails. Perhaps the best way forward, if you are willing, is for you to decide what should be published and if you could structure the information so that I can then put it on the website as you would like. Really 'anything Dalesford' as so little is available out there for anyone to access.

I have just re-visited the emails and the last one you sent did not have an enclosure. I will return it to you to see the problem. Sorry I didn't alert you to that but as always I am up to the eyes and I am not getting to the important HiFi issues and upgrading the site.

Terry, seems our computers do not like talking to each other.
Just sent you Dalesford data sheet, hand typed version.
If you want a copy of the early factory original via snail mail just say so.
Andy.

Hi,
I remember a DIY pair of speakers I had , 12" bass, and 5" mid by dalesford which looked like kef units , the tweeter had been replaced with a piezo horn.
They weighed a lot, 18mm plywood with 18mm bitumen lining, they were a lot of fun on the end of the Rotel 1412 amp I had at the time.
I remember the doping started to peel from these drivers, I have no idea what the speaker kit was though ? |

They'd be a "DCS Series" kit from Wilmslow Audio.
The one you're referring to is probably the "knock-off" of the Chartwell PM400.
Wilmslow sold lots of "Dalesford Constructor Series" (sic) kits and speakers after "acquiring" most of the drive units from the defunct company. |

Fascinating Colin.
I do not remember Wilmslow selling these.
But Western Audio Research (sold as WAR) went down about the same time as Dalesford did.
I have somewhere a Dalesford alignment tool/jig for the 12" cones.
Most of my Dalesford cones are separating from the surround.
The damping too is misbehaving.
I guess it is not helped by the huge temperatures changes in the loft.
Interestingly only one B110 from the constructor series has done the same... |

You're going to have to try to get to a Wilmslow "car boot" sometime . |

I still have several pairs of assorted cabinets they sold off a few years ago.
They must go sometime… Loft is full, too full! |

I have Dalesford 6.5 and 10 inch nothing quite like stock version custom made for Bud Fried that had stickers from 1980. I am using Fried C3L pyramid shaped t-line cabinet with Hiquphon tweeter in series crossover. Magnet diameter 102mm stock D153 had 92mm. Top plate to back plate 10mm longer. 10 inch has 135 mm magnet with 2inch voice coil with cloth dust cap. These could play far louder and cleaner then the stock Dalesford or Kef units.
