For those of you in the UK I saw a pair of Concertos on ebay. They look in very good condition and have a low starting bid price. Manuals are included.

They look like they have been cared for. Here is the link.

Yes I have been watching them. Too often people buy them for the B110s and then the Concertos are no more. I will bid for them if the price is reasonable. I want a set of Concertos for the collection. A pair with added Queen Anne legs sold on eBay a few weeks ago for about £170 - I suspect that they are in safe hands.

Has the KEF concerto bubble burst on ebay for a while?

These certainly look better than mine and I paid £80 for my pair.

Has anyone contacted the seller?

80 pounds in Cdn. equivalent seems like an excellent price as well. b3rtie.

I leave that to you guys in the UK. Usually on Ebay the prices go up at the last minute or hour. Right now the raw drivers are worth more than the bid. Plus, some folks are looking for the latest speakers.

For interest have a look at www.high-endaudio.com on components, audio, audio press etc. and all the hype that goes along with it.

By the way is the b3 in your name as in Hammond B-3 or is the 3 part of Thirty?

Hi David

Cheers for the web link, I will have a look.

The 3 is because B3rtie is also my ebay name and someone got there first! Otherwise its my brothers nickname for me. No Boeing aircraft involed either, no I'm not thirty, but nearly!

Just interested, what is Hammond B-3?

Hi B3rtie, The Hammond B-3 is the monster of an electric organ played by such greats as Jimmy Smith. You will hear it on many 60s pop recordings as well. It has 3 manuals as well as pedals and is driven through Leslie speakers. A real classic instrument-- the equivalent in organ terms of the Fender Rhodes electric piano.

Check out some of Jimmy Smith's work and you will see.

Concertos are going from not wanted to 250 pounds. They are getting beyond the great deal range, imho. Sorry Terry.

Yes Concertos seem to be popular just now. At that price they must be being bought for the speakers and not just for the drive units. I hope so anyway.

Hi

Is Concerto have a very exceptional sound ???

According to the spec. Concerto max power is 50 watts.

Is it possible that they go further without blowing the tweeter or others drivers ???

Thanks

Concertos don't like to be over-driven. I think they have a wonderful presentation but they do 'lose it' when driven hard. For most home situations and most music they are in my opinion excellent speakers.

To get the best sound from them a few tweaks are required (spikes on base and stand on concrete or massive marble/granite slab). Also perhaps replacement crossovers. The presentation can also be changed quite significantly by changing the HF drive unit (depends on your taste).

In my opinion the Concerto can provide exceptional reproduction for a 30 year old speaker. It shows that speaker technologies have not developed significantly over that time. I can recommend them.
