Hi all,

i'm trying to find out the physical and sonic differences betweent the IMF Professional Monitor Mk. III and the IMF TLS80.

is the Monitor MKIII better or just different? the TLS80 brochure says that it's the home based version of the MKIII. whatever that means. the brochure doesn't specify.

what's the difference between the MKI, MKII and MKIII versions of the TLS80? how do i tell what model a pair of TLS80 are by looking at them?

bascially, i have a potential offer to trade my KEF 104/2 for a pair of TLS80 (locally). i would like to go through with the trade, once i can make an eduacted decision. one of those being to make sure the TLS80 have KEF drivers, not IMF/Elac.

so, how to i tell the difference by looking at the cones? upon inital view of pics online, it looks like the IMF oval bass cone is a real cone. the real KEF B139 is a flat (wood?) cone. did IMF ever make an oval driver that had the same cone as KEF? or is this a dead giveaway? the mids look to be more tricky. the IMF mid looks like a "white-belly" B110, but the dust cover is bigger. any thoughts on this?

thanks,
Robby

I dare to answer you, thogh my knowledge, compared to that of the Forum specialists is almost inexistent.

I understand that IMF built its own drivers, or had them made -by Dalesford?-, just before they quit bussiness. I've seen photos of them in some speaker catalog.

The bass unit was oval but NOT flat as the B139 is. By the way, the B139 is made out of expanded polystyrene covered by a thin aluminium foil, not wood.

I do'nt know if its sound was as good as the original KEF units.
