Hi. New to the forum.

Going to 'audition' some 105.1s. How much should i be prepared to pay for a mint pair?

Amps are MF XA50s - will they be ok?

Any 'pitfalls' that i should look out for at the point of purchase (obvious ones like rotting surrounds i can identify)?

Will i be pleasantly surprised at their sound quality? i'm currently running Harbeth thingies PL (shoebox size not unlike LS35as) + sub for the bottom end).

Cheers and thanks - nice to be here, even if it has been like Fort Knox to get into! Wink

MF XA50s

50W into 8 Ohms and can produce a bit of current into a speaker fused for 200W rms, hmmm.

Unless you're going to use them nearfield, don't turn up the wick, or you'll stuff the T52s.

Cone rot is not a problem with rubber surrounds, but check the bass unit by pushing it in gently and listen for voice coil scraps, there should be no tizzyness from the tweeters and as a whole, the image should be solid as a rock with no degree of fuzzyness.

Thanks ColinR - i assume that the XA 50s are a bit uderpowered, rather than being too 'beefy'. That is why the question was posed really, will an uprating of the amps be required to drive the 105s safely? i'm not, as you can probably tell, an electronics boffin, just a hi fi enthusiast..
