Will get back with a report soon.
Right now I am trying to get technical details on, drivers and cross over's.
I am in contact with AOS and some TDL fanatics.

TDL Reference Standard.
After 2 weeks of playing with my TDL’s I got a good impression on their performance.
First let me describe the speakers a little.

Age: 18 Years.
Frequency response: 16hz up to 35Khz

Power handling: 50W up to 150W

System: Bi-wired 4-way, triple transmission line.
Each bass driver is loaded by it’s own separate line.
The mid bass is also loaded by a transmission line.

Drivers:
Bass 1x TDL GT3021-01 8 ohm
1x TDL GT3021-02 16 ohm
Mids 2x TDL 130NS13 11 ohm
High 2x Eton DT25/35 16 ohm
S-high 1x Celestion HF200 ?? ohm

Tapering and dampening: Bass lines / with rock wool
Mids line / natural wool

Dimensions / weight: H120cm x W60cm x D55cm / 70Kg

Listening room:
The backs of the speakers are positioned 80cm from the backing wall and free from any wall at the left and right side, this means not within a range of 5 meters. The fronts of the speakers are looking into a 7 meter deep room (my living has a T-shape). The floor is from Oak shelves and is acoustical “isolated” from the concrete floor and walls. Between the speakers and the listening place is a carpet. Walls and ceiling are from brick and plastered. The speakers are powered by my Marantz SR14 amp and 2 Musical Fidelity MF250 power amps. In 5-ch mode, the SR14 only needs to feed the centre and back channels. Connected with the SR14 are the Marantz DV17(DVD) and SA12S1(SACD).

Impression:
Impressive dimensions, Low WAF but hey look at me, I am still married and my TDL’s are real monsters…………

I have listened to a wide variety of music and in different formats. Classic, Jazz and Pop in Dolby-d, DTS, in 5-ch and 2ch, normal CD and SACD. Direct after playing the first tunes, I discovered that the “hot spot” is no longer as critical as it was with my previous speakers. Moving 60 cm to the left and right of my old hot spot didn’t made a big difference.

The sound stage remained in the middle of the speakers even in 2-ch mode. After a couple of day’s playing with several formats and moving my speakers till I found their optimal position, it was time to do some serious testing. I only played in 2-ch mode to be able to judge the performance of my speakers. With their double woofers, mids and tweeters, the RSTL is able the reproduce the music with great accuracy, transparency and ease.

Even at low volumes you will experience the “pressure” they are able to build, but these monsters require a powerful amp that is able to get them going. My MF250 main amps (250W each) are absolutely not “overdone”.

The sound is unbelievable transparent and very detailed, but as always it varies with the recording quality and sound engineer behind the buttons. Good Lord there is much crap software on the market. Fortunately I do have quite some excellent software (Telarc, STS). Performers and instruments were easy to place. The bass is unbelievable. The TDL’s produce a very, very deep bass without losing any detail and without getting booming. My IMF SACM is quite an impressive and well performing speaker as well but it can’t beet the TDL Reference.

So far I am very satisfied and I do feel sorry for my unemployed SACM’s.

Last week I was able to buy 2 pairs of TDL Monitor Compact Speaker although I have no clue why TDL named them “Compact” (120cm x 30cm x 40cm). One pair will serve the back channels, The other pair I will probably keep for their spares. Also I bought 4 original 8ohm woofers, 4 130NS13 Mids and two Celestion HF2000 super tweeters. AOS has new replacements for the Eton tweeters so I will buy 4 of them soon before he runs out of stock. Also I bought a complete set of technical documentation, Including driver specs and cross over scheme’s, drawings of the enclosure, tapering and dampening. Now looking for at least 2 16ohm woofers and a TDL Centre.

Best regards,
Cor

Just in case anyone is interested there is currently some TDL Reference speakers for sale down our way at this address:
http://axent.co.nz/speakers/usedspeakersindex.html

But at a little over 5000 pounds, I worked out for that price I could get about 100 more examples of my RTL-2s! Are they really worth that much?
