Thank you so very much for that, but it stops at 3 pages... _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

One of the advantages of being anonymous , I spotted Pete Thomas at the Tonbridge Audiojumble earlier this year with his hair in a pony tail and looking a couple of stone lighter than his photographs.
I wonder whether he'll be visiting Bracknell next Sunday? _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

can you really believe him when he says the KM1 did not go loud enough? If the Radio 1 people really thought that they must have been deaf by then if that was their preferred listening levels? |

What Radio 1 personel probably meant was "Not Enough Distortion! " _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

These pony- tails seem to be infectious... _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

It gets more fascinating! I have just read the three pages and am gagging fot the rest of the article.
However, I also noticed his association with RACAL , it is a small world indeed.
Many of the original Racal diehards from that era are well known to me as well as all the numerous offshoots that the company produced.
One or two still growing rapidly in Gloucestershire.
One friend in particular worked for Heathkit Gloucester before joining Racal. His forte was filter designs at which he still excells... the other is now in NZ and the rest of the list is far too long.
Interestingly most are Hi-Fi addicts like the rest of us! _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

The ears self protection mechanisms cause temporary and eventually permanent threshold shift of the ear's sensitivity. I don't remember any Radio 1 personnel, but one Radio 2 studio manager did admit that his taxi home after one session seemed remarkably quiet!
Even though the KMI could achieve +12dB spl compared to the LS5/8, which they had been using, another SM asked if they could have another 10dB, to have a "little bit in hand"
The KMI did not sound as loud as it was because of the lack of amplifier clipping. For a lot of users if there is no audible distortion then it's not loud. |

Agreed, I sadly know a few myself, they are not happy unless their system is producing square waves! _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

Very true, in which case the next question is why spend oodles of money on something like the KM1? get a JBL or Tannoy, revel in the relative distortion... and get an inferior balance |

Reminds me of when I first heard the top of the range KEF reference loudspeakers at home driven by a Krell.
then
It did not sound too loud till you tried to speak and realised that your lungs were being modulated by the KEFs. _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a
