try switch cleaner on the contacts, or solder a shorting wire between the contact terminals and see if you can hear a difference? |

For serious gunk on switches and PCBs a fine brass wire clothes brush (for velvet) cleans up contacts nicely . _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

Thanks for that, I'm not sure there is anything actually wrong with the switchs I just wondered if by passing them would improve the sound.
Anyway new caps arrived today so I have to pluck up the courage to try soldering them on....... fingers crossed. |

Love the Avatar white 104's Richie
Do you have a pair of those? What's the finish applied with? Is it a plastic, a paint?
Do let us know how the re-cap goes please. Are you using all electrolytic cap's? Alcap? Are you changing the 0.6uF to a Solen?
I for one am quite interested to hear your take on the results. _________________ Music is food for the soul. |

Do you mean will two soldered joints sound better than one metal to metal contact? The answer is only if the switch is dirty or corroded.
Some experiments to try:
Spray the switch with cleaner/lubricant and see if you can hear a change.
Solder a link across the contacts and see if you can hear a difference.
What the switch does is select a different tap on an inductor, so you could also try to bypass with a link on the pcb.
I very much doubt that you will hear anything provided the switch has been turned a few times to scrape away any oxide. You might also check the fuses, while you're at it. The ends can tarnish over time. |

T.O. I think its a paint finish, what ever it is its very good. Seems it was a Kef option way back when.
I just bought the Falcon Acoustics 104ab cap. replacement kit (x2)
I'll try the things you suggest guru, I thought many people by-passed the fuse to ? |
