Hi All,
Just joined and really enjoying the forum!!
Ive just purchased my vintage KEF Corelli speakers
I gave them a good test but noticed one of the T27 tweeters sounded very hollow, bit too bright it also started to pop slightly. I thought it might be blown so searched on ebay for a new set - surprise surprise there were a pair on there but bidding got a little too high for me (around £105.00)
I stopped and thought over the issue and the more I thought about it I started to think maybe the crossover could be at fault. So I tasked myself with swapping the tweeters over from the other cab to the other and hey presto the "faulty tweeter" worked fine!! And of course the "good tweeter" sounded like the symptoms above.
My crossovers are DN-17s, I tooK the suspect crossover out and could not see any evidence of burns or cap swelling. Im keen to get my Corelli speakers working soon so poped over to ebay and purchased a pair of DN-13 crossovers - the seller has a history of selling KEF components and assured me the DN-13s will be fine.
My bass drivers are the SP1063
Will let you know the outcome!
Merry Christmas!

you've been ripped off by a sleezeBay shyster.
Individual KEF crossovers are for specific designs and are not interchangeable. _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

Welcome to the Audio Sanatorium.
Colin beat me to it, but he is quite correct with his statement.
Here is the genuine article: http://www.hifiloudspeakers.info/Anatomy/Crossovers/DN17SP1052Corelli/Gallery/index.htm _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a

Hello Colin! OH DEARY ME
Not a good start for me...
So Im gussing we are saying the DN-13s were designed for a particular KEF model and the 17s are specificilly for the Corelli ? Will the 13s change the characteristics of my t27 and SP1063 _________________ Ollie Kiell |

I don't think so, but I'll look .
The DN13 Chorale crossover "will work" but it's capacitors are probably more cooked than the Corelli DN17s.
The power handling will be reduced from 50W to 25W.
Can you solder?
Get 2*(30uF, 3.3uF, 0.6uF) and 6*10uF capacitors from www.falconacoustics.co.uk or elsewhere as the inductors and resistors are unlikely to be damaged.
If you cannot solder, find a friend or U-Tube and learn . _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

When you say cooked you mean knackered?

Wow thats a big drop in power there!
Can you solder?
Yes, infact better on these older circuit boards _________________ Ollie Kiell |

Yes, the simpler topograpy will allow operation using just the inductors, so "it'll work" although it's stuffed.

So keep the volume down.

Try to avoid modern Lead free solder unless you clean off all the old melt, the new stuff does not mix with the old so the chances of getting a "dry joint" are a racing certainty.
Replace the 3.3uF and then the first 10uF in the treble section.
As you're in Kent, come an say hello at Tonbridge http://www.audiojumble.co.uk/ in seven weeks time . _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

I'll make it one day but Tewkesbury is just too far away, I hear so much favourable reports about the event! _________________ I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a
