One of my family members obtained a couple of IMF ALS40 loudspeakers on "Freecycle" for er, well, um, free!
As you can see the upper bass drivers have been replaced by totally inappropriate drivers by a "Professional Firm!"

As might be expected they sound wrong and the bass can best be described as “Quacky”.
I know that there were a few variants of these and I hope to try and use a driver with a lower fs.

Obviously with little information on the internet and not having access to the originals or even the Thiele Small parameters I’ll be working in the dark. Anybody got any ideas out there?

All I could find was the Super Compact 2 which used an "IMF 200mm ribbed cone bextrene driver" and another "IMF 100mm bextrene cone type" and the Audax 25mm tweeter.
The Compact Monitor 3 also had a bextrene 200mm bass and bextrene 100mm mid, and the HPCM also had a "100mm bextrene unit".
So I'm guessing that the drivers were IMFs own, to show they did not have to buy from Kef!!

It now sems that in some versions the upper bass unit was the
Audax HD20B25J and the lower one the KEF SP1014.

Indeed IMF also used their own drivers as well, confusing as one can assume that both MKI as well as MKII may have used different drivers during their production runs.

Interesting Morduant Short driver. I assume that is a phase plug but not the streamlined cone of todays' phase plugs?

Not much help with the base drivers, but the mids and tops are the same as what was in a early pair of TLS50 i used to have. Their was no identity on the mids, but Colin informed me that they where Elac, and the tops where Audax.

Thank you, I suspected Elac.
Tracing the original Bass units is proving difficult.
Finding the parameters (Thiel / Small) would help a lot.
