Have you checked that you get output from the tweeters? The "boxiness" is sometimes a result of lack of highs and it could be either blown tweeters or drifted caps reducing the highs output.

As far as I can hear the tweeters seem fine.

Does anybody know if the Clarity caps are a similar size (physically) to the originals?
I put Solens in my 104ab’s and they are fine but I doubt they would fit in the mid box of the 105's....

Also the little rubber grommets on the bolts on the mid boxes, I presume they're there to de-couple but would they not be better removed altogether?

SG those grommets on mine are serioulsy flattened out.....

rx7 did you use a mixture of Elcaps and Clarity's ?

Also I notice you have a single hole on the bass bins (for the shaft ?) was that original as I have two......also another hole in the bottom panel, does yours ?

Here is a pic of my Mk 1 crossovers, which I recapped over 30 years ago now. They sit in a heavy wooden box directly underneath the 6 power amp channels connected directly to the drivers. In those days I had access to some pro equipment so I measured the original caps and made up replacements to 0.1% of the (close) mean of the originals between channels. The power resistors in the middle board are set on test to replace the DF of alcaps because of the polyprops used.

Looking at your satin black pics (very nice!) I would comment that the foam layer originally on top of the bass cabinet was there to mop up mid range reflections from the head unit minimising interference with the direct sound. I used a very thin piece of U shaped plywood (just enough to accept a small staple) covered with thick black anti static foam, and bass bin grill material stapled over, to slide into the space at the side and front of the head bracket, flush with the veneered bits of cabinet side and back.
