The Mk 1 Model 105 came as standard with those covers. Yours look to have been very well looked after. One lady owner, as they say? |

To appease the wife I added a 4 mm black acrylic "shelf" on top of the speakers, just sits on top of the frame. (a tip I got from the web).
At least she now thinks they blend in more with the room.
I did not know that the MK1 came with both sets of cover as these are the first ones I have seen, needless to say the wife prefers the full covers.

Welcome to the KEF sanatorium, and may I also congratulate you on finding a pair of these classic audio transducers!
They have a beguiling sound and never offend the ear.
I last heard a pair being used for monitoring during one of Cheltenham’s music festivals with the particular event taking place
at Shaftesbury Hall a great many years ago.
May they give you many years of pleasure…

Nice thing in most valued 70´s to 80´s gear is, that second hand prices are now pretty close to original list prices... but we can buy these with 2014 money.
If this gear has been cared as well as your 105`s has been, you have got real bargain. It is quite sad how little most people seems to care how they treat their valued equipment. It seems that almost 30% 70`s speakers do have round watermark from flowerpot.

Well, I paid £400 for these, which I considered a bargain for the condition they were in. Obviously been well cared for.

Very nice pair, a joy to see them so well looked after.
I'm interested in the half covers - I was not aware the Mk1 was sold with these - or had an option - was this introduced near the end of production just before the Mk2? I made mine myself!
The bass cab top has been cleaned up nicely, usually there is residue from the original foam glue after the foam has rotted away. |

I was not aware either until speakerguru said.
So I don't really know when they were available, these are the first I have seen on a pair of 105 mK1
They are obviously factory made.

Hi Kimmo
I had been looking out for a decent pair on EBay for quite a while, so it is just a matter of patience.
These were offered at a buy now price and I just happened to see them within an hour of them being posted on EBay, so, yes, in the right place at the right time.
He wanted more but I made an offer of £400 which he accepted. Obviously I had to pick them up, from Manchester, but well worth the trip from Doncaster.

Hi Trevor
You are right. I am the other person to you and you are the other person to me. I got nice Audio Research SP3A (made in 1972) with 8 decent 12AX7 Amperex Bugle Boys (made by Mullard also in 1972) few months ago for 900 E. They are usually offered for twice that money even being much less perfect appereance.
I was looking for SP3 couple of years and lost one in less perfect condition at something like 1000+ E last year. So... it pays to be patient.
