|

Hello, I've just ordered a pair of these as replacements for my KEF 105.4's. I chose this route over getting, say, a pair of Morel MDT29's after reading (I think on this site) that the T33's don't actually have ferrofluid in them and therefore will not suffer the gumming issues that other KEF fluid filled tweets from the 70's and 80's do. NOW I'm reading (also on this site) that T33's DO have ferrofluid. I'm wondering if I just bought myself a nice pair of tweeters ready to be installed, or if I bought a pair that needs another $100 worth of restoration. I'm hoping that you KEF experts can clear it up for me. |

Just found this. Seems to clear things up, but if anyone can confirm?

The T33 SP1074 used in the Ref 103-2 does not use ferrofluid cooling - it's a "proper" drive unit .
Ferrofluidised T33 mkIIs have 1210, 1192, 1195, 1197X, etc SP numbers.
Give me a squeak via email and we'll do some swapsies to test out your ears . |

I'm pretty sure what Colin R wrote is correct. The large gap in the T33 SP numbers from SP1074 to SP1191 would also support this. |

Pretty certain the SP1074 does not contain ferrofluid. The SP1210 found on R107 and SP1265 on R107.2 did have ferrofluid with the SP1210 being more prone to drying out and gumminess. |

Well, the tweeter sounds terrific, so I'm very happy. Thanks for the input. |
