I took this part of the forum as dealing with non-KEF designs using KEF drive units, not cheap grotty designs overrated and overpriced by sleezBayers favoured by impoverished 70ís students needing a cheap sound system from Laskeys using two 4 ohm drive units and an ABR.
Does a decent into a discussion of the dreaded alternative EMI 13*8 with twin tweeters beckon?
The later15 XR series were slightly more musical and less affordable but still propped up the Celestion range.

..... however, there is a KEF connection.
Laurie Fincham designed that range of Celestion ABR (passive radiator) systems when he was at Celestion in Thames Ditton. He was then recruited by Raymond Cooke to become Technical Director at KEF and I don't think it was a coincidence that the first KEF Reference Series model was the 104 .... surprise, surprise; an 8" ABR system.

I had a pair of 15 XR's as a young man, a very young man, I have to say they sounded pretty good to my ears
