Hello everyone, Mr Quackers here - I have a pair of Celestion 551 in my collection - can anyone tell me whether the dome midrange unit fitted to this model has ferro fluid cooling.
I do not like ferro fluid cooling in old speakers as it dries out over the years, becomes tacky and reduces output of speaker unit - hence, output may be low on this dome midrange if it has ferro fluid as speakers over 30 years old.
I tried to contact Celestion in Ipswich but they seem to have moved and I can't find out where they are.
Many thanks. |

Thank you for your reply TL 200 - I myself have already seen this information from Otto and it is very good but doesn't go deep enough into spec - however I'm surprised if the units had it and Celestion didn't mention it in their advertising because I recall many manufacturers at the time extolling the virtues of ferro fluid and using it as a marketing tool in their advertising - but who knows - maybe they had ferro fluid and Celestion didn't advertise the fact - the question remains and can probably only be answered by a Celestion designer who worked on the units originally - we're going back probably 35 years + and I fear my question will remain unanswered... |

I guess you're right about the fluid, probably isn't there.
Found some info about the units, even the weight of the magnet (2.6 kg)
but nothing about ferrofluid. Good Luck, TL _________________ Without music, life would be a mistake.
