Here's a picture of the other 105.4 crossover, different than the one that is sitting in mine, perhaps another SP nr. Before and after recapping.
Also here the 15 ohm resistor looks bad.

An other question,
Is it possible to change the faceplate of the T33 SP1074 with the faceplate of a T33 sp1210 (RR107, C60 etc.)?
It looks that the 4 screws are sitting on the same spot, it would be nicer too see and the sp1210 has a small horn type faceplate, maybe also sounding better?

Different faceplate, different response, different eq., different XO.

You might not be able to hear the difference but it would definitely measure different on and off axis.

Thx, asked this because i could buy a pair of SP1210 tweeters for a low price.

Money is underway to Falcon, so next week i hope to have all the parts here. There was a grille mount broken, also ordered by Falcon.

Already i have replaced the speaker connectors for better ones, still had these here, from the project of the CS7.

And i saw on http://2ndhandhifi.co.uk/category/loudspeakers/ that in England a lot of Kef's are for sale, also RR105.4's. There is no asking price, so i can't imagine what the seller wants for it.

Today i was checking the manual and other papers that came with the 105.4., i came across several items, also a brochure of the RR105.2. The son of the first owner maild me that his father had regreds afterwards that he didn't bought the 105.2. Funny detail is the price of the 105.4 that he wrote on the 105.2 brochure, 1595 guilders ( 724) for 1 speaker.

Also i can see the signature of the man who tested-inspected this set of speakers, looks like an A and B, maybe someone know's this guy, would be fun.

Ahh... they arrived, including an explanation, great, because a man like me is NO expert. Laughing

Good luck, the Falcon parts are the best you can do at this stage without the original values. At least the pair should be matched to give the fabulous stereo image the heads were always famous for.

Thx, i will also mark the old ones so i can always put them back, if necessery.
I already have marked the new ones, 1 bag with red, the other with bleu. The crossover boards themselves i will also mark the same way.
If i ever sell them, the buyer gets the original capacitators with the buy and can easily put the crossovers in their original state.

Well, i've done it, their are playing with the new capacitators. So far i can hear the sound is very good, almost the same as with the old capacitators. Off course i must listen more to get a good judgement.
As you can see on the photo's i marked the old capacitators as mentioned.

(note: i used the old R3 resistors, the new ones where missing) Crying or Very sad

Thank's,

i have a question about the difference between the crossover's of the same speakers.
On another forum, audiokarma, there is also a guy who recapped his crossover of his Kef RR105.4, but his filter is different.

1: His filter has on the C4 position a 150 volt 80 MFD capacitator, while mine has on that location 150 volt 120 MFD. Are the C 1-2-3-4 capacitators voor the bass ? What would probably be the diffence in sound?

2: And a, for me, unknown thing is different on our filters, X on the photo beneath, who can explain this, what is it for?

The big capacitors are all in parallel which adds up their capacitance, so you had 480uF in series with the bass unit. This interacted with the inductance and rolloff of the bass unit/box to give the efficiency of a reflex design with the rolloff of a sealed box. The difference in value to 440uF (-8%) is probably just due to a different batch of B200s and their parameters.

Some people used to short circuit these capacitors in the hope it improved the sound because older amps used to have output through a capacitor, and any capacitor is "bad". However I prefer to trust the Kef designers, who knew what they were doing far better than the ex-fridge salesmen who used to write low end hi-fi magazines. Razz

The relay is presumably controlled by the S-Stop circuitry and will cut down the input to a low value to protect the drivers when the input goes beyond 200W for a length of time or something like that.

If i disable the S-Stop circuitry, would that be a sonically improvement, or not Question
