Somebody kindly sent me the circuit diagram and I have finished rebuilding the crossovers. The speakers sound surprisingly good. In case anyone is interested this is the route I took:
1. PCB:
https://www.intertechnik.com/Shop/Cross-over-parts/Circuit-boards/_LP05-INSELPLATTE_1768,en,12,47227
2. Mundorf ECaps and Mills MRA12 resistors:
http://www.hificollective.co.uk/
3. Bennic 1000 mfd Non-Polar Electrolytic Capacitor 100V
https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/electrolytic-cap-100vdc/bennic-1000-mfd-electrolytic-caps/
4. ALCAP 25 MFD 50V - > "Solen PB-MKP-FC 25 mfd
https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/solen-capacitors/solen-25-mfd-fast-cap-400v/
5. Inductor Coils: Salvaged the originals.
6. Cable inputs and outputs / bridges: Oyaide PC-OFCC 20 AWG
Comments:
1. Intended to use Solen PB-MKP-FC's for all caps except the Bennic 1000 mfd. They were too big for the PCB so I ended up using just the 25 mfd. Try Mundorf Ecaps for all caps except the Bennic 1000 mfd.
2. The vias in the checker-board PCB are 1.6 mm dia - instead of typical 0.7 mm dia. And the solder tabs may have been sprayed with lead-free solder. I used Ersin Multicore leaded solder but it pooled around the huge vias. Experiment with lead-free solder.
3. Attached heat clips to all parts when desoldering and soldering. When desoldering/soldering the wires to the speaker driver, be sure to wedge thin cardboard, etc, above the cone to catch any solder spatter.
4. Used rubber grommets between pcb legs and cabinet and screw heads and PCB.
5. All the parts suppliers were friendly and efficient. Hificollective shipping charges are very good / Madisound uses FedEx and charges are expensive. |
