I have just bought a pair of t27s to put into a pair of Concertos, which had other tweeters installed when I bought them. They still have the original crossovers. Both speakers sounded great - it was the first time I had heard the cabinets with all the correct speakers. But after about one minute in each case the tweeters seem to have died. One has that scratchy blown speaker sound, and the other is completely dead. Can anyone think of a reason/explanation? I connected them with a signal coming through the speakers, but I can't see how that would have damaged them. Is there any chance of fixing them? Any ideas welcome. |

Electrolytic capacitors turn into resistors over time and running a "old" tweeter full range doesn't do it a lot of good.

No, I've never seen any KEF redome kits for sale and a rewind would cost >£40 so they're bin fodder or large fridge magnets. _________________ This post or any other information supplied to this website or any other by myself is not available for any form of commercial purpose i.e. to hi-fi magazines or as sales and marketing material for sleezeBay or Audiodogging pimps and the like. |

Does sound bad, but also unlikely. Are you certain both have died? Do the old tweeters stil work with those XOs? Can you get any sort of resistance reading from the T27s? Were you playing particularly loudly? How big is the amplifier? |
