Hi everyone,
I'm dealing with some problem of my KEF R102 speakers, one speaker sounds more open than the other. When I lay my ear to the tweeter on my left speaker it sounds dull, but on the right is sound open and good. I've changed my tweeters around 2 years ago, and they sounded good after that. But recently I feel like my left speaker sound less open. I've changed amps, but it is the same. Changed the speaker cable from left to right, and it is always the left one who sounds more dull.
I would appreciate if you could give some suggestions what could be the problem.

Kindest regards,

Kjartan

Change over the tweeters , i.e. swap over left and right, and see what happens.

Of course, I'll try that.

Thanks,

I changed the tweeters from left to right, and now is the right speaker no as open as the left one. The tweeter is probably broken. Any idea to get a new one?

Kindest regards,

Do you have any information where I can buy a R1542X tweeter for my R102? I contacted KEF and they will only deliver to their distributor here in Iceland, but the distributor herer are charging me over 150 pounds for one tweeter. And I'm not willing to pay that.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Kindest regards,

Kjartan

Sorry, can't help with your shipping , cos I'm about as far away as you can get. My replacement hf drivers for R107 only cost around 30 pounds each locally !

But something to watch out for wrt blowing tweeters. Is your power amp too *low* power ? If so, you can be generating distortion that increases the HF content over what is considered 'normal' , thereby cooking them.

Of course a too big power amp can also easily cause damage, and the ferro-fluid coud be drying out prematurely in a dry climate...

Good luck - maybe somebody in the UK can buy a tweeter ( or pair) on your behalf.

My amp is the Cyrus Two, so I think it is powerful enough to drive the speakers. I had the original tweeters for about 20 years, got a replacement from KEF about 2 years ago, and one of it has gone bad.

I bought replacement tweeters for my Reference 107's, R1549X if I remeber correctly, from Akustikk on Oslo.

www.akustikk.no

They actually had the best price, compared to the rest of Scandinavia. The retailer in Sweden took more than twice the amount.

Also worth noting that these new spec drivers seems smoother and more extended than the old. And a nifty little metal grille over the dome.

Well, maybe find a friend in Norway where to ship the tweeters from the importer, and them have them ship to you? Wink

There's always a possible for a another brand of tweeters. Do you have any suggestions for me? Someone mentioned Morel MDT30, but they're circular but I need a squared one.

Thanks in advance,

Kjartan
